Abstract

The theoretical evolution of the concept of heritage has made possible a more comprehensive understanding of it; in other words, its understanding in a territorial dimension. In this sense, the cultural landscape acquires prominence as a representative concept of the change in the scale of observation. However, the cultural landscape as an object of study that evidences a heritage view at a territorial scale is not yet considered, at the provincial level, as a local management

and planning tool. On this basis, this research article analyzes the officially declared heritage in the Junín and San Martín departments of the province of Mendoza, and examines its characteristics and spatial distribution, understanding that they make up historical cultural landscapes. For this purpose, a mixed methodological scheme that articulates qualitative and quantitative strategies is used. From this, we reflect on the rural areas of the study area and their (in)visibility in terms of heritage.
