Current Inventory of Nature-Based Solutions for Mitigation and Adaptation to Climate Change in Argentine Cities
Main Article Content
Abstract
Nature-based Solutions (NbS) provide multiple benefits in the urban environment by enabling a comprehensive approach to environmental challenges, increasing climate resilience, contributing to restoring biodiversity, improving the health of the inhabitants, strengthening water and food security, among others. The aim of this article is to display an updated inventory of current NbS in cities of the Argentine Republic associated with mitigation and adaptation to climate change. In order to do this, a bibliographic search was carried out on its existence in the cities of the country and a systematization of these experiences was made considering the name of the project, the type of NbS, the city in which it is located, the year in which it was carried out, the ecosystem services it generates, among others. As a result, 22 projects were identified in the provinces of Buenos Aires, Córdoba, Santa Fe, Mendoza, Chaco, Salta and La Pampa. Out of these, 40.9% have been completed, 22.7% are in progress and 36.4% remain a project. It is concluded that it is key to expand the application of NbS in the country and integrate them with gray infrastructure to establish solutions that enable climate change mitigation in Argentine localities.
