Abstract

The historical mutation in progress is frequently associated with the hegemonic transition and the rise of the South to the detriment of the global North. The crisis of neoliberal capitalism effectively fuels the economic decline of the United States and the ascent of China. But understanding this shift demands the use of other Marxist concepts. The Pentagon's failed warmongering illustrates the crisis of the imperial system in the absence of anti-imperialism in the heterogeneous Global South. The lack of a substitute recreates the failed unipolarity without defined multipolar counterparts, in a framework of right-wing waves that have no borders and undermine the harmonisation of global governance. Popular action will determine the sign of any future transition. Ignorance of this centrality is as frequent a flaw as the omission of a historical turn intertwined with socialism. This article is the result of a conference held at the 25th Geography Research, Teaching and Outreach Conference on November 8, 2024, at the Facultad de Humanidades y Ciencias de la Educación, Universidad Nacional de La Plata.
