Analysis of the urban heat island in the city of Mar del Plata: Evaluation of the impact of urbanization processes through the use of LANDSAT and SENTINEL satellite images (2000-2020)

Abstract
This article analyzes the relationship between urban expansion and microclimate changes in Mar del Plata, Argentina, during 2000-2020. Starting from the hypothesis that the processes of public space commodification and construction densification have profoundly transformed local environmental conditions, the study uses satellite images, in-situ climate data and planning documents to quantify changes in vegetation cover, built surface area and microclimatic variables. The results seek to contribute to a comprehensive understanding of the environmental challenges that cities face within the framework of the new neoliberal cycle, and to the formulation of more sustainable and resilient urban planning strategies.
